OH my GOODNESS! My new wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon as our first taste of Hawaii, and I'm sorry to say it ruined us! IT was SO perfect! Just what we were wanting!

After reading the other reviews we were prepared for some "nature" in and around the house, but the little geckos were the only thing we saw! (and they are the unofficial state pet, hello they eat the bugs!!)

The house was so nice, a good size for 2-4 people. We made use of the second bedroom as our closet. Great little kitchen, and living room, nice hardwood floors, WONDERFUL!

The waves are just out your window, a perfect lullaby! We loved eating out on the lanai, and having our own private beach (coarse sand, not soft), and ancient fish pond! It is VERY private, as the nearest residence is 1/4 mile away. We did hear cars driving by on the road, it is right off of it, but that wasn't a problem.
Didn't have any problems with the washer and dryer (situated outside under covers).
It is a bit out of the way, and any drive into town is about 15-20 mins.

MOLOKAI IS AMAZING!! Rush hour was 3 cars in both directions! PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO GET THE HOT BREAD AT 10:30 AT NIGHT!! We "heard" about it, and felt adventurous(down an alley to a back door with one light bulb), it was the best thing! WE HAD TO GO BACK before we left the island for more! Half of what we bought was GONE before we got back to the house, we couldn't stop eating, it was so soft and melt in your mouth delicious!

And don't rent a car from any one but Island Kine! They picked us up from the airport in a van, and gave us a guided tour through the island. We went into what looked like a house to do the formals, and felt like family with Grandma and the dog to greet us. They gave us very helpful advice about where to shop, and places to see, better than any guide book!
Another "must", the Cookhouse on the way to Kalaupapa peninsula. Superb! Small and cozy!

Ignore the negative reviews, and tell them to go to some foo-foo resort!
This is the true Hawaii! We are DEFIANTLY coming back here to stay at the Dunbar's!!

Stayed at the Cottages in 2009 and had a great time!! I have to say I lived in Hawaii and this place is typical Hawaiian Style!! Don't expect glamour and you won't be disappointed.

Watched the moon rise over Maui every night and watched whales, dolphins, and turtles from the balcony.

The mule ride to Kalapapa is worth every penny and the Hawaiian music at the coffee house is authentic/true Hawaiian!!

Work to live - ALOHA !!
